bring the noise -public enemy

black steel in the hour of chaos -public enemy

both tracks from ‘it takes a nation of millions to hold us back’ 1988 -seems bizzarre that album is 20years old -it’s still seriously spot on… and in keeping with the political theme -even though it seems odd to place country directly after hiphop -at their best they are astute/politica voices for the poor and oppressed so it doesn’t seem so strange and when talking to a bunch of prisoners and treating them as human beings johnny cash made this album not to be a hard ass but to show some compassion and humainty… i’m going to do that thing where i play a whole album -this being one of my all time favourites -it’s kind of like a rough as shit sunday stories -that us wee kids from the 70’s grew up listening to… this is johnny cash at his best -funny, touching, vulnerable, savage & rockin’

johnny cash at folsom prison -side one: folsom prison blues -dark as the dungeon -i still miss someone-cocaine blues-25 minutes to go -orange blossom special -the long black veil. side two: send a picture of mother -the wall -dirty old egg sucking dog -flushed from the bathroom of your heart -jackson (with june carter) -give my love to rose (with june carter) i got stripes -green green grass of home -greystone chapel

a comment on ritual -nation of ulysses

what do i get -the buzzcocks

bridesmaid -bored games

it’s so easy -guns’n'roses

so thats it for me for the week -oh my that was a strange collection of songs! ahh well… and going from axl at his cuntiest to ahhh the the beauty that is jeff tweedy

you’re the best thing…

July 29th, 2008

ike & tina turner fest to start with!! weehe…

my man

i idloize you

if i can’t be first

chicken shack

a fool in love

crazy baby

paul weller is coming here on the 26/27th of august holey fucking shit!! i can’t believe i just heard… (thats cuase he isn’t?!!? -he is??!! he isn’t???? i don’t know now…ah well here i go in full excitement anyway…) i’ve been in total love with him since i was 8 i swear to god… slowely cming to know his work over the years.. so in ode i’m gonna play nothin but weller from the jam to style council and his solo stuff *sigh* so starting with one of my favourite songs where he’s blending soul with punk very nicely indeed -from 1980’s sound effects… i’ve named songs from albums -the others were either singles/or from compilation albums ’snap’ is a good overview as is ‘the jam collection’

monday -the jam (sound effects 1980)

start! -the jam (sound effects 1980)

great depression -the jam

town called malice -the jam ( the gift 1983) (nearly almost killed by billy elliot/commercials etc but not quite)

down in the tubestation at midnight -the jam (all mod cons 1978)

going underground -the jam

pretty green -the jam  (sound effects 1980)

eton rifles -the jam (setting sons 1979)

mr clean -the jam (all mod cons 1978)

private hell -the jam (setting sons1979)

funeral pire -the jam

butterfly collectors -the jam (another bitter song -about groupies this time instead of the upperclass)

english rose -the jam - (all mod cons 1978) coversly a beautiful love song

wild wood -paul weller (wild wood 1993)

oh god -that song -so beautiful and has truely seen me through some hard times… *siigh* for many many years -unfortunately i forgot my favourite solo weller album -he’s live with just a guitar and he spans his career -it’s truely stunning… and a nice prelude to his upcoming tour i imagine… anyway here’s the muc villified ’style council’

you’re the best thing -style council (cafe bleu 1984)

long hot summer -style council (introducing the style council…1983)

headstart for happiness -style council (introducing the style council…1983)

i suppose instead of raving on about my enormous crush i could have shared some facts -like he started the jam at about 16yrs old and weidly -not unlike josh homme, with kyuss broke the band up in his early 20’s obviously wanting to go in a more soul direction -which he’d always mixed with the punk but i guess being the eighties and being in love and not an angry teenager anmore resulted in the style council. we have to evolve right? i mean jesus… obviously he recieved a LOT of lfack for it and in the hilarious video for long hot summer you can see on youtube -a very homoerotic video of him punting and oiling his bare chest and stroking the other dudes head -either he’s again making a pointed remark about the upper class or he’s been called a fag from going from punk to sweetness and he’s taking the piss -thats my guess anyhoo… very funny and i wasn’t sure if he had a sense of humour he hates an interview anyway!

ok here’s some songs from his influences and inspirations album i love so… yeeesss i play this song all the fucking time but goddmned it’s just so so good and thanks to the weller i discovered it and early marvin gaye

pretty little baby -marvin gaye

god made me funky -the headhunters

agent double o soul -edwin starr

sunny -marvin gaye

summer wine -nancy sinatra and lee hazlewood

some super sweet pretty beautiful songs before we get into my eighties rant i’ve been threatening… ok phew… now when playing at a party… the single most annoying violence inducing thing someone can say to the dj apart from ‘play something we can dance to” especially when people are dancing or just want to stand around talking shit, is (”play some metellica 9 inch nails” so obviously wrong to warrant attention )-”play some 80’s music!!!” arrggg!!!!!!!!!! sometimes YOU ARE…it’s just not what they’re talking about. And lets face it as much as i like doing dumb erobics moves to ’lets get physical’ it sounds harsh as crap when you aint pissed as a newt, or when people are chatting -what they mean is \play some trash!” which lets face it has it’s place but…rarrr anyhooo here’s some actually decent eighties tunes…*sigh*

spanish stroll -mink de ville (ok 79 but hey)

teardrops -womack and womack

stray cat strut -stray cats

cool for cats -squeeze (jools hollands band -best lines in this song… nasty “all ended up was bitter and a nasty little rash” “she took me up to her place and i gave the dog a bone”)

peaches -the stranglers

total control -the motels

doot doot -feur

she’s lost control -joy division

ahhh ok… phew glad i got that off my chest… needed to as i took it out on andrewcheeseontoast on sat by yelling “lay some 80’s music ‘ at him at quay st completely forgettin he didn’t understand the context and that there was deep irony involved -i was just being an obnoxius friend.. hehe… never mind!

anti love song -betty davis

god made me funky -the headhunters

see and don’t see -marie queenie lyons

how do i let a good man down -sharon jones

future shock -curtis mayfield

accross 110th street -bobby womack

herculese -aaron neville

ok! bye! back out into that beautiful crips sunny day…
