blank generation -RICHARD HELL AND THE VOIVOIDS
in the flesh -BLONDIE
“in the flesh’ being the b side from the single with ‘rip her to shreds’ as the A side -but radio stations played the softer b side -by mistake apparently but it hit number one in australia and therfor propelled blondie into fame and popularity etc. etc. all this i know from an awesome doco on this period of time NY77 -about the evolution of music -punk/hiphop/disco that came out of NY in 77 when New York was at it’s most scummy run down and violent. of course enabling all these musicians to live in and around the same area and have clubs(CBGB/Studio54 etc) street parties etc without the police/councils etc shutting them down -they were understaffed and didn’t care
elevation -TELEVISION
another girl another planet -THE ONLY ONES
rock’n'roll radio -RAMONES

because the night -PATTI SMITH (written by bruce spingstein)
also last night was the series 7 ages of rock on prime -this one about art rock with the likes of the velvet underground/bowie/roxy music/genesis/pink floyd etc… was quite good -great footage, not spectacular but worth a look, seemed quite brit orientated however -which i suppose? is what art rock would be considered to be predominantly -however often documentaries of this very ernest/idolatry ilk tend to ignore what i consider quite a fundamental point and that is that even some very serious, very clever, popular bands had sex appeal with, very very good looking lead singers ie syd barret ( a very early crush of mine at about 12 i believe) dave gilmore also quite pretty, dee dee ramone, blondie, richard hell, tom verlaine, david bowie, ian curtis, paul weller blah blah blah etc etc etc
5 years -DAVID BOWIE (ZIGGY STARDUST AND THE SPIDERS FROM MARS)
sweet jane (live) -THE VELVET UNDERGROUND
shock the monkey -PETER GABRIEL
may seem somewhat out of place but was in the genre of ‘artrock’ the outrageous costumes he wore were retarded, spectacular and rediculous when he was in genesis -awesome… i’ve always had a secret love of peter gabriel which one only releveal’s occasionally (my first tape…) & phil collins pointed out their kinda lack of sex appeal so went outrageous on it -hence the costumes and show antics… and following a similar vien and staying british for wee while… my favs of the big day out line up
sea inside a sea -THE HORRORS
smile -LILY ALLEN
fuck the pain away -PEACHES
and just to finish off -a recent discovery which is pretty outrageous really especially considering how much i love this kind of sound/energy/ethos

whose crying now -journey
kkk took my baby away -the ramones
phew! had to play something irreversably cool just to counteract the possible judgement and reputation loss… cause you know there’s nothing more horrifying than the possibility of uncool status… yeeeaaa…. actually there probably wouldn’t be fierce 2 minute punk unless there had been overblown overproduced 5minute long guitar solo rock indulgence indeed…
riverboat -lee dorsey
don’t forget the record fair this saturday at d.o.c on k-rd 11-3… there will be plenty of lovely goodies and good music all day long…

diddy wah diddy -captain beefheart
7 and 7 is - love
invitation to cry -the magicians
don’t look back -the remains
now i’m gonna play some more of the records found in sydney, name dropping scott walker -wow because one must if one is in an alt country band etc… but i’m not and i have only heard about him more recently due to the rebidness of my boyfriends fascination in the man… and we got george harrisons first album after he left the beatles… all things must pass which is quite something actually, a triple record expelling of creativity that was a huge success -and the first beatle to do so…
the sun aint gonna shine anymore -the walker brothers
i’d have you anytime/my sweet lord/wah-wah-george harrison (from all things must pass)
and finishing off my not that well conceived set (was intending to share one with Dave but he’s sick poor wee button) is another album i found in sydney an original motown pressing but it is an album i’m not sure of at all unfortunately! sounds good but somehow not sure if it is… The Supremes covering Sam Cooke -obviously a tribute album after he was tragically killed… ahh well see what you thing anyway…

mick was teaching me to drive!!! was he qualifed?? and i was just hanging out and chatting to ian and feeling guilty that maybe i was enjoying it WAY too much! they were in auckland because of the recession…hmm hehe… serious music geek dream i guess… to my credit? i HAVE hung out with Mick and met Ian so it’s not too seriously stalkery? or is it??? (now i just sound like a wanker..oh dear) i’m thinking it was becasue i posted on my facebook page an interview between the two on Ian’s show ’soft focus” grrowwwlll… oops

from a compilation i found in a great music store in the blue mountains… the views were covered in mist and there was nothing for it but to go record shopping and i found some MINT stuff… that and the awesome markets they have in glebe and rozelle. most of the following i haven’t listened to properly having just got off the plane and all… but know most of the artists -this however has to be played simply for the title
